Ingredients
4 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or your favorite baking apple)
½ cup granulated sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
4 sheets puff pastry (store-bought, thawed) or enough homemade pie dough to cut into 4 squares
2 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup water
½ cup apple juice or apple cider
1 tsp vanilla extract
