Pit the plums, chop them into small pieces, and mix them with the gelling sugar in a saucepan.
Add the cinnamon stick and bring to a boil while stirring.
Boil gently for about 4β5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Roughly chop the chocolate and add it to the hot fruit puree until completely melted.
Stir in rum, if desired.
Ladle into sterile jars while still hot, seal tightly, and turn upside down.
